What You Can Do With Unfinished Wooden Kitchen Cabinets
If you are not sure what color stain you want for your wooden kitchen cabinets, there is nothing wrong with installing them unfinished and making the decision later. You can paint or stain the cabinets or leave them unfinished indefinitely. The natural beauty of the wood shows through and this can be an influence in the décor of the kitchen. Some woods a re naturally light, while others are dark and may even look as if they have the finish applied to them. You do need to know about the kind of wood that your cabinets are made form. Some woods are hard and some are soft. You can choose from maple, cherry, pine, walnut, oak, hickory, mahogany, birch and ebony. Each of these woods carries a different price tag, so this may affect your choice, especially if you are working within a budget. Oak is the cheapest and ebony is the most expensive. It is also important to know about the wood of your kitchen cabinets so that you can get the right satin. Different woods react differently to different types of stain because of their inherent properties. Mahogany is a naturally dark wood and stains nicely. Walnut is another dark wood that you can stain, but walnut darkens as iut ages, so if you do apply a stain it could mean your cabinets may become too dark for your liking after a few years. This is one of the woods that you should probably leave unfinished. Ebony cabinets glow when they are stained and polished and look very elegant. Oak is the most commonly used wood for cabinets and comes in several different colors and varieties. You can virtually stain this wood any color you wish. The traditional stain for oak was a tan or golden color, but today's kitchen cabinets focus on cherry red or black cherry stain, both of which are very beautiful.
